Studio Otwarte at Social Design Days in Tbilisi

In June, we had the pleasure of taking part in the first edition of Social Design Days, organized by the Design Institute Tbilisi.

The event focused on the social dimension of design – from public spaces to grassroots initiatives and local identities.

Invited by Polish Graphic Design and the Polish Institute in Tbilisi, Tomasz Jurecki, representing Studio Otwarte, led both a lecture and a workshop under the shared theme “Past Forward.”

During the lecture, he spoke about our approach to working with heritage – and how historical symbols, local motifs, and narratives can become the foundation for contemporary visual systems. In the workshop, participants learned how to translate local context into visual concepts – starting with analysis, moving through moodboards, and ending with early identity proposals. Finally, during a panel discussion, we joined Rene Wawrzkiewicz (PGD) and Giorgi Avaliani (Holy Motors studio, Tbilisi) to talk about what social design means to us.

Many thanks to all organizers and participants!
